Manu isn’t done just yet. Reports indicate that Manu Ginobili will not retire and instead is ready to return to the San Antonio Spurs this fall.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Tuesday that Ginobili and the Spurs were close on a deal that would bring him back for the 2017-18 season, which would make for his 16th season in the NBA.

Wojnarowski reported that the soon-to-be-40-year-old intends to play one final season for San Antonio. Woj also reported that the Spurs intend to bring back Pau Gasol, who opted out of his deal earlier this summer.

Ginobili got a hero’s farewell in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals as the Golden State Warriors swept the Spurs on home court. Many thought it could be the last time the 15-year NBA veteran put on the black and white for San Antonio, but Ginobili said he would take his time when considering retirement, and it looks like as the summer went on he decided he’s not ready to hang them up.

Considering the Spurs had some interest in acquiring Chris Paul and haven’t made a huge splash in free agency this summer, it makes sense to go back to what has worked so well for the Spurs for more than a decade.
