Michael Jordan And Neymar Came Together For The Launch Of Jordan’s First Soccer Boot

It was announced this week that Neymar would be the first professional soccer player to rep Jordan Brand, with his own signature Jumpman boot unveiled on Wednesday. The 24-year-old Brazilian soccer star will rock his new Hypervenom cleat during this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio.

Michael Jordan himself welcomed Neymar to the Jumpman family, as the two got together to show off the initial releases under Neymar’s name. Those products include the Hypervenom cleat, some signature gear, as well as a special Neymar edition of the Jordan V.

A partnership between Jordan and someone in the soccer world seems well overdue at this point — Air Jordan has already ventured its way into basketball (duh), baseball, football, golf, and many other sports — but the company insists that Neymar is the perfect fit and well worth the wait. Neymar seems to agree.

“I’m excited that Neymar and the Jordan Brand are working together,” said Michael Jordan. “I’m a fan of his creativity, style and passion for the game of soccer. He’s a special player and I look forward to this collaboration.”

“Michael Jordan set the standard for greatness,” says Neymar Jr. “He’s an incredible competitor and a champion. I’ve always admired him, so to collaborate with him and have his icon on my boots means a great deal to me.”

It certainly does seem to be a great launching point. For Neymar, he gets the chance to be the first of his kind and Jordan’s soccer ambassador. He also gets the opportunity to work alongside MJ, one of this generation’s most iconic names and faces in sports. That’s keeping good company.

For Jordan, not only is Neymar one of the biggest and brightest young stars in soccer today, but the Olympics will take place in his home country of Brazil this summer. That means all eyes will be on him (and, to a certain extent, Jordan) throughout the soccer portion of the Games.

At the moment, the two sides seem to really be enjoying the partnership.
