The Timberwolves New Logo May Have Leaked Due To An Ad Glitch

The Minnesota Timberwolves will be the NBA’s latest team to update its logo, with the official unveiling scheduled for Tuesday night. Uniforms won’t be revealed until the late summer, but the new color scheme and logo will be released on April 11. Unfortunately for the Wolves, an ad glitch on the Star-Tribune website appears to have leaked the image early.

A splash page with an advertisement of their new logo hit the website before it was supposed to and a number of reddit r/timberwolves users took screenshots of the leaked logo.

Conrad Burry of SportsLogosNet also confirmed the splash page showing the new logo as well.

The reaction to the logo has been pretty muted, with many pointing out that the colors look an awful lot like the Seattle Seahawks colors and the logo follows the trend many teams have been going towards, which is standardizing logos into a circle shape — this makes it easy to create patches and such.

I don’t have any problems with the logo or the color scheme. It’s not especially inspired or unique, but at this point that’s not what teams are going for. Adding brighter colors makes things pop more and follows the Oregon model, which is to use bright, flashy uniforms to appeal to a younger crowd. It’s the reason the Hawks added the “volt” color in their recent rebrand, and I would venture to guess that same idea went into the Wolves concept.

We’ll have to wait and see what they do with secondary and tertiary logos, as well as uniforms — I’m not crazy about the font on the primary logo and hope that’s not what they’ll go with on the uniforms — but you can be assured that whatever they come up with will be more colorful than their current rotation of uniforms.
