This Retro ‘NBA On NBC’ Finals Intro Will Get You Even More Pumped For Game 7

Basketball fans are amped for Game 7 of the NBA Finals, and with good reason. The battle between LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers versus Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors makes this one of the most exciting NBA games in recent memory. It would seem hard to add a dose of nostalgia to a basketball game that hasn’t happened yet. That is, unless you harken back to the magic of NBA on NBC.

NBC hasn’t aired NBA basketball since 2002, and they have no affiliation with Game 7 of the NBA Finals, which will air on ABC. However, that hasn’t stopped one enterprising person from making a faux NBA on NBC intro for the game. By taking video clips from the current NBA Finals, but using a pregame intro from a bygone era narrated by Bob Costas, this video manages to both get you excited for the upcoming NBA Finals and make you fondly remember the quirks and eccentricities of NBC’s basketball coverage.

What really takes the video to the next level, of course, is when “Roundball Rock” by John Tesh kicks in and we see the intro graphic for NBA on NBC. Is it the best sports programming theme song of all-time? It very well could be. Just try and watch this video and not be excited for Game 7. Just try to get “Roundball Rock” out of your head, too.
