Shouldn’t Patrick Ewing Finally Get A Chance To Coach The Knicks?

The New York Knicks will need a new head coach next season. Patrick Ewing believes it should be him.

Here are some facts that show why Ewing could be a good fit (and also remind you of how old you’ve gotten): At 53, Ewing has been an assistant coach around the league for more than a decade and has been the lead assistant with the Charlotte Bobcats for four seasons.

According to the Daily News, Knicks president Phil Jackson prefers to give interim coach Kurt Rambis and his career .283 win percentage the job the next season. But that didn’t stop Ewing from making it known he wants the gig:

“You know, this is a great fit for me. I have my number up there (in the Garden rafters). I still live in the area,” Ewing said. “If I get an opportunity for an interview, I’d be happy.

This isn’t the first time Ewing has had his name mentioned in connection with the Knicks coaching job. But if he can’t get the job over a guy whose career winning percentage wouldn’t even win him a batting title in baseball, maybe he will never get it.

“I’ve been doing this, what, 13 years now? I see people who don’t have the same amount on their resume as I do and still have gotten opportunities.”
