Rudy Gobert Asked Sportscenter To Mention His Block Of Andrew Wiggins, But We Can Do Even Better

Hopefully you’ve already seen Andrew Wiggins detonate on Rudy Gobert a couple different times last night. After the second one, Rudy had his revenge and even flexed a little in Wiggins’ face (to Andrew’s credit, he took the block in stride and laughed at Gobert’s Bruce Banner routine).

After the game, Gobert made sure to remind Sportscenter if they’re going to talk about the dunk, they should also mention the block:

We got him covered because some of us are in love with the Gobstopper.

Around the eight-minute mark in the third quarter, Robert showed off why he’s one of the most exciting big men in the game today. And this play didn’t feature any blocks.

Gobert intercepted a pass to Justin Hamilton and dribbled all the way up the court with Hamilton on his hip. Then he flicked a behind-the-back bounce pass for a two-handed Trevor Booker jam.

The Frenchman is 7’2, and he’s running the floor and dishing behind his back. Unreal.

But it’s Gobert’s intensity that has so many basketball fans falling in love.

In the video below, Gobert said he was “never gonna be scared,” a simple ethos more NBA defenders should subscribe to.

“I was waiting for [Wiggins] to come back,” Gobert said. “He came back pretty quick, and I just blocked him.”

When the Salt Lake Tribune reporter asked him if he needed a short memory to play this game, “to be embarrassed one moment and then to come right back and make a great play the next,” Gobert disagreed:

“Not really, I think it’s just about pride. When you make a bad play, you want to get someone back on the other end. You want to make sure they don’t disrespect you no more. You gotta make yourself respected. If not, they’re gonna try you every time. That’s what he tried to do the second time, so I had to get the ball.”

Gobert finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds (five offensive), three blocks and a steal. Plus, more importantly, the Jazz won going away, 104-84.

Stifle tower, The French Rejection, The Gobert Report, Gobzilla, whatever you call him, you gotta love the way he plays with such fearless energy. Still, some dunkers are going see this and try to put him on a poster — like Wiggins did twice last night. We’re pretty sure he’s counting on that reaction.
