Watch A Shirtless Man Emerge From A Garbage Can During A Rockets Game

In the above video … man, what is there to say about it? It’s a tad traumatizing. In an effort to distract a free-throw shooter — a free throw is worth a single point — that’s what the Houston Rockets came up with? Paint a man green and have him pop out of a garbage can?

It didn’t work. Rodney Hood of the Utah Jazz made both free throws, and the Jazz rallied to win the game. 89-87.

Let us now consider everything that went into this moment in time.

  1. This appears to be some sort of promotion or message for going green. The man who pops out of a garbage can appears to be holding garbage and his body is painted green. Someone inside the Rockets organization asked for ideas about what to do to promote conservation and someone stood up in a meeting and pitched the above scenario and a person in a suit said yes.
  2. Someone had to ask the shirtless man in the garbage can if he was up for this.
  3. Someone had to paint the shirtless man in the garbage can, and I assume it was some poor intern who joined the Rockets because of their love of the team and desire to learn about the inner workings of a pro sports organization. That person is now trembling in the fetal position of the team parking lot.
  4. This was probably rehearsed. The timing needs to be right, so the mascot probably practiced banging on the lid so the man could pop out at the right time.
  5. Was there a a discussion about the type of garbage the painted man would hold upon leaping from the garbage can? Is he a serious method actor? Did he say a popcorn bucket wasn’t believable?
  6. Is the man in the garbage can pretending to be Slimer from Ghostbusters or Oscar the Grouch?
  7. What about the fans behind this show? That one man pays good money for a front row seat and suddenly street theater is taking place during the fourth quarter of a tightening game.
  8. This is the same team that fired someone over a tweet.

Anyway, let this be a lesson to anyone in an office with an idea that you think is too weird for a giant corporation to do. You only need one person to say yes so you may as well throw it out there.
