Manu Ginobili Pokes Fun At Boris Diaw After A Beautiful Sequence By The Spurs

There’s a reason it’s called “Spurs ball.” There have been many imitators, but nobody does it better, not even the Golden State Warriors. This gorgeous play against the Minnesota Timberwolves Wednesday night was absolutely mesmerizing. Just look at how effortlessly the ball moves around the perimeter and how everybody seems to be in the exact right position (because they are) and how in sync everything is.

Granted, it was against the Timberwolves, but nevertheless, when the San Antonio Spurs are executing like this, they’re nearly impossible to beat. Just ask the Big 3 era Miami Heat. In the meantime, this is a strong candidate for a Leigh Ellis Very Solid Play.

Though this possession was certainly intoxicating, it wasn’t quite perfect – Boris Diaw didn’t touch the ball. But according to Manu Ginobili, it was the threat of the rotund Frenchman that allowed his teammates to ping the ball around with such speed and beauty.

There are many, many, many reasons to love San Antonio, and their utterly dominant defense and surging offense are chief among them. Perhaps next in line? The sarcastic, fun-loving nature of the team so many of the uninitiated like to call basketball’s most boring.
