Steve Kerr Could Resume Coaching The Warriors As Soon As This Weekend

Despite losing a whopping two games and showing they are, in fact, humans, the Golden State Warriors are off to an incredible start, and they’re still on pace to post the best regular season record in NBA history. That the Warriors have done all this as the reigning champs is even more impressive considering the post-title malaise that usually sets in for defending champs. But what’s even more mind-blowing is the Warriors have done it without head coach Steve Kerr, who has been absent, recovering from complications after spinal fluid leaked out during offseason back surgery.

Per interim coach Luke Walton, however, Kerr could finally be back with the team as soon as this weekend. Here’s what Walton told ESPN.com:

It’s obviously a possibility. He hasn’t said he’s going to. To be honest, I don’t think he knows yet. I think that’s part of why he’s on this road trip, to see how his body handles the travel and getting into Houston at 1 a.m. tonight to turn around and play again then get on another plane and fly home and get in late again. So that’s part of why he’s here on this trip, whether or not this weekend is a realistic return or not.

Kerr made the trip to Texas for Golden State’s games against the Mavericks (a 114-91 loss) and Houston. It’s a good sign since it was Kerr’s first multi-game road trip with the team this season. Clearly, Walton has been able to keep the Warriors playing at a high level, so there’s no need to rush Kerr back sooner than needed (not that there was a reason anyway). Still, Kerr’s return to the court, whenever that is, will be a welcome arrival.
