Celebrate Steve Nash’s Suns Career With His Top-13 Plays (And Special Socks)

Everyone has their own Steve Nash moment – a highlight or a play that embodies their admiration for the two-time MVP. It could be his no-look, behind-Tim-Duncan’s-back assist to Amar’e Stoudemire, his circus layup over the Portland Trail Blazers, his game-tying, pull-up three against the Dallas Mavericks in the playoffs or any other of Nash’s myriad highlights during his illustrious career. Even those who were never fans of Nash have their moments, and can’t help but grin when they think of them.

Nash played the game unlike any other, so it’s only right that the Suns will celebrate his “Ring of Honor” induction tonight a little differently: By wearing special Steve Nash socks, courtesy of Stance.

That’s Nash immortalized in one of his iconic poses: Head up, eyes scanning the floor, tongue and hand in mid-lick. Here’s Ben York of Suns.com talking to Jay Gaspar, the Suns equipment manager, about how this idea came to pass:

The first step was to contact the league office for approval, and if they said yes, take the idea to the people at Stance. Stance and the NBA were very excited about the idea, and the rest is history. Stance took the ball and ran with it. Thank you very much to the people at Stance for creating these in such a tight timeframe.

Obviously, the image of Steve licking his fingers stands out. As we all know, he was famous for doing that and then brushing his long hair behind his ears. Stance sent me three images to choose from, and that was a no brainer.

A player as singular as Nash deserves to be honored with more than just a ceremony, so thank you, NBA, for allowing the Suns to wear these socks.
