The trailer for Street Kings, formerly The Night Watchmen, premiered on Yahoo today.
Tom Ludlow (Keanu Reeves) is a veteran LAPD cop who finds life difficult to navigate after the death of his wife. When evidence implicates him in the execution of a fellow officer, he is forced to go up against the cop culture he’s been a part of his entire career, ultimately leading him to question the loyalties of everyone around him.
It also stars Hugh Laurie, Forest Whitaker, "The Game", and "Common", and directed by David Ayer who previously wrote Training Day.
I loved Training Day, but I have a hard time picturing Keanu Reeves as a hard-nosed cop who gets what he wants by any means necessary. It’s easier to picture him as your stoner roommate who gets what he wants by nagging and pretending to forget stuff. The only truly convincing dialogue he ever delivers is "Whoa." I think his talents would be best utilized if he was cast opposite scientists and authority figures in documentaries. Like in An Inconvenient Truth Al Gore could lay down some gnarly global warming facts, but periodically they’d cut to Keanu and he’d go "Whoa," and it’d really help convey the enormity of it all.
