PBS fired Fred Willard from their dumb show

There was a time in this country when a man was allowed to earn a living and what he did on his own time was his own damn business. Those days are gone, and now Fred Willard has been fired from PBS. His only crime? Being too passionate in his support for the arts.

After the actor and comedian Fred Willard was arrested in Hollywood on a charge of lewd conduct, the fallout was swift. PBS said Thursday that Mr. Willard had lost his job as the wisecracking narrator of its new show “Market Warriors.”

He’s a comedian. Comedians aren’t allowed to jack off anymore? MY GOD, WE CAN’T HAVE OUR NARRATORS MASTURBATING! WHAT WILL TELL OUR YOUNG CHILDREN WHO WATCH ANTIQUE SHOWS?! The logic is stunning.

On Monday, PBS introduced the first of 20 episodes of its “Antiques Roadshow”-spinoff “Market Warriors,” which pits professional antiques pickers in a competition to spot the best bargain.

What the hell has happened to us as a society that we have ten different shows about people buying junk at swap meets? Pawn Stars, Hardcore Pawn, American Pickers, Storage Wars, Pawn in the USA, Junk Pimp (I may have made those last two up)… Indisputable sign of a civilization in decline: 10 shows about people buying and selling junk, zero about astronauts. I’m pouring out the remnants of this discarded toaster for our space program. Also, “Market Warriors“? It’s people buying lamps. Jesus, man, grandiose much?

Jeanne Hopkins, a spokeswoman for WGBH, the Boston public broadcaster that produces the show, said via email, “Given the unfortunate news reported today, effective immediately, Fred Willard no longer will be involved with the ‘Market Warriors’ series.” [via ArtsBeat – HEE HEE!]

Well I guess this means I’ll be not watching it EVEN HARDER. And I’ve got my fingers crossed that Jeanne Hopkins gets arrested for f**king her dog like Michelle Owen.
