‘Magic Mike’ Is Indeed Heading To Broadway

While Deadline reported the green light news last Friday, the hardest twerkin’ man in show bizna$$$ty, Channing Tatum, offered up his own confirmation on Tuesday that his hit semi-autobiographical film, Magic Mike, is 100% going to become a Broadway musical. While I’m still awaiting confirmation about the use of hologram Tupac, Deadline has all the details on the magic men behind what will undoubtedly be the greatest musical ever made.

The producers have set Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey to write the songs, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to write the book, based on the Steven Soderbergh-directed film that was informed by Channing Tatum‘s early days as a male stripper. They’ve gotten top-shelf talent. Kitt and Yorkey are the creators of the Tony- and Pulitzer-winning Next To Normal, and the upcoming If/Then, starring Idina Menzel. Aguirre-Sacasa recently co-wrote the book for Spider Man: Turn Off The Dark and helped turn things around when there was nothing but bad news on that musical and performers were dropping like flies from the complicated rigging.

Obviously, there won’t be any complicated rigging to worry about for a Magic Mike musical – unless you count any rigging needed for audience lap dances – but the actors that will eventually be chosen to fill such roles as Mike, Dallas, Adam, Tarzan and Big Dick Richie are going to have mighty large penis pumps to fill. After all, not any ordinary man off the street can pull off moves like this…
