X-Men Gives Sentinel Head at Comic-Con

Fox and Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past has revealed the design of their sentinel heads at Comic-Con, the country’s premiere venue for revealing the designs of things. I’m getting an iRobot meets Daft Punk with a dash of Cobra Commander vibe. IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE THE CARTOON YOU GUYS I’M SCARED!

According to Marvel canon, Sentinels are programmed to locate mutants and capture or kill them. Though several types of Sentinels have been introduced, the typical Sentinel is three stories tall, capable of flight, projects energy blasts, and can detect mutants. [Wiki]

Big deal, you think I can’t project energy blasts? (*lights fart*)

The Sentinels in this story are the creation of Bolivar Trask (whom current all-but confirmed speculation has embodied by Peter Dinklage in the new X-movie). They’re hulking, mechanised brutes that are used to corral mutants into concentration camps and kill those who resist. We’ve previously seen one of the robots’ heads in X-Men: The Last Stand, but the new film takes the design in a new direction.

Days Of Future Past finds the mutant heroes fighting for their future against a dark world where they’re hunted and imprisoned. It will require the efforts of both the present day team and their younger versions in the 1970s. [Empire]

Oh, so he builds giant robots to fight the mutants? Way to rip off Pacific Rim, bro. Honestly, my main takeaway from Sentinels was “big, scary robot”, so I’m not especially concerned with facial features. And Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask? It’s like the God of Tits and Wine has finally answered my prayers.

X-Men: Days of Future Past (shouldn’t it be Days of FutureS Past? That effs with me every time I type it) opens May 23, 2014 in the US.
