Last week, 2016: Obama’s America director Dinesh D’Souza was indicted for violating campaign finance laws. But he didn’t get to spend much time playing Monopoly with blacks, as he was soon released on $500,000 bail. And now, because he’s in the news, sites are posting the trailer for D’Souza’s newest dorkumentary, America. Hooray for SEO!
In America, D’Souza — who wrote and produced the film — makes the claim that 1960s radical leftism is more or less indistinguishable from current mainstream liberalism, a doctrine that he says preaches the United States is the product of “stealing and plunder” from Native Americans, Mexicans and African-American slaves.
“I want to take this progressive, leftist critique head on,” D’Souza says in the trailer.
“I want to take on this imaginary straw man head on, by using the same counterarguments from 40 years ago!” Cool, let’s pit sixties leftism and Nixonian conservatism against each other again while all our pockets get picked.
The movie will include re-creations of some of the major events in American history.
Like when Ronald Reagan kicked down the Berlin Wall with his horse? I can’t wait.
“When American citizens begin to suspect that people are being arrested for alleged minor violations because of their vocal dissent against their elected representatives or rulers, it breeds disrespect and contempt for the law and suspicion of those officials,” ["America" producer Gerald] Molen told The Hollywood Reporter. “If this unfortunate action against Dinesh is intended to deter the release of his upcoming film, America, that effort will fail.” [HollywoodReporter]
Boy, this guy really has his finger on the pulse of the people. Almost everywhere I go, I hear people complaining about how sick and tired they are of ordinary think-tank guys getting arrested for petty campaign finance violations. When does it end?
It’s sad. I thought this was America. Speaking of, here’s the trailer:
“Look, I know I might offend some people by saying this, but I think America is pretty great.”
My favorite shot was the lovingly composed slow-motion shot of Darth Vader and Darth Maul leading the America pride parade while tinkling piano music plays.
