FilmDrunk Movie Club: ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night’

Billed as “the first Iranian Vampire Western ever made,” Ana Lily Amirpour’s A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night played the Next program at Sundance last year before being acquired by VICE Films, who released it in select theaters in November. Of course, “Iranian” is debatable here, since A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night was filmed in California. And the billing doesn’t even give it full credit for originality; it’s definitely the first Bakersfield Vampire Western shot entirely in Farsi.

In the Iranian ghost town Bad City, a place that reeks of death and loneliness, depraved denizens are unaware they are being stalked by a lonesome vampire. Cast: Sheila Vand, Arash Marandi, Dominic Rains, Marshall Manesh, Mozhan Marnó, Milad Eghbali.

Anyway, it’s currently available on Netflix, making it an easy choice for a Frotcast discussion movie (and yes, we all actually watched it this week). We’ll be talking about it tonight on the Frotcast, with Courting Comedy‘s OJ Patterson, with the Frotcast coming up tomorrow or Thursday, depending on how fast we can get it edited and posted. So check out A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night before then if you want to feel invested in the discussion. Or, feel free to just sit back and enjoy the lengthy discussion of Matt Lieb’s latest sexual perversion like always.

As always, feel free to send us your questions/comments/etc. in before then. Frotcast@gmail.com, 415 275 0030.
