Bob and Harvey Weinstein do not intend on being dragged down by Hollywood’s recent slump, and the fact that they will be distributing the future Tarantino smash-hit The Hateful Eight should promise them a very prosperous 2015. The Hollywood Reporter announced that Tarantino’s film will be released in the fall of 2015.
The Weinstein Company is set to distribute Quentin Tarantino‘s The Hateful Eight, it was announced on Wednesday.
Set in snowy Wyoming a few years after the Civil War, The Hateful Eight, at least at the time of the script read, focuses on the tension among a group of people trapped after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route. The group includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier and a female prisoner in a saloon.
Harvey and Bob Weinstein said in a statement, “We are incredibly excited to begin production onThe Hateful Eight, as we know this picture will be as innovative, brash and of course fun as all Quentin projects prior. There is, quite simply, no other filmmaker like him, and we are as proud as ever to continue this partnership that started over 20 years ago.”
The movie will be shot on 65mm film and have the widest 70mm film release in more than 20 years, The Weinstein Company announced.
Since the Weinsteins have been involved in every Tarantino movie since Reservoir Dogs, this bit of news was kind of a foregone conclusion. The real news would be if Tarantino instead teamed up with Disney to distribute The Hateful Eight. Or Dreamwork’s The Hateful Eight. Or, my ultimate film-boner fantasy, Troma’s The Hateful Eight. That would be the greatest bit of movie news of all time. James Gunn and Quentin Tarantino team up to make a low budget, CGI-less, kabuki cannon bloodfest starring Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Madsen and whatever aging porn stars the Troma people have lying around. And now that James Gunn has come into mainstream prominence as the writer/director of Guardians of the Galaxy, maybe this dream will someday become a reality. Until then, enjoy all of the Tarantino money, Bob and Harvey.
