Confirmed: Hugh Jackman Will Kidnap Boys In A Gritty Peter Pan Origin Story

Oh the crimes Hollywood commits in the name of public domain. To go along with films about a sexy Frankenstein punching gargoyles and the Harry Potter-ized Tarzan, Warner Bros is planning a gritty Peter Pan origin story starring Garrett Hedlund as a young Captain Hook. And now the rumors that Hugh Jackman would play Blackbeard have been confirmed. It’s probably the best idea ever.

It has just announced it has set Hugh Jackman to play Blackbeard in Pan, the Joe Wright-directed update of JM Barrie’s Peter Pan tale.
In Fuchs’ script, an orphan is taken to the magical world of Neverland, where he becomes the savior of the natives and leads a rebellion against the evil pirates led by Blackbeard. [Deadline]

Ooh, Peter Pan leads a rebellion of the natives, neat. I always said the original Peter Pan didn’t have enough of a Dances With Wolves/Avatar vibe. You think he ends up banging a princess? Also, why would you have to rebel against pirates? They’re pirates! Rebels, rogues, wandering outsiders by definition. Oh forget it. I can’t wait to see what the director of Atonement does with this incredible material.

I like to imagine the crocodile that swallowed the clock snorting coke in the corner of some Warner exec’s office. “TICK TOCK, YOU F*CKIN F*GGOTS, LET’S GET THIS REBOOT GREENLIT! WOLVERINE! THE TRON KID! TROY DUFFY’S BAND CAN DO THE SOUNDTRACK!”
