Guy Ritchie is making a Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr. attached to play the lead. Now Variety reports that Jude Law is close to signing on as Dr. Watson.  Law’s English accent is said to add credibility.

The film will incorporate the classic tales written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, as well as the comic book “Sherlock Holmes.” Studio is still casting some of the principal roles, including the villain, Blackwood. [Variety]

I love RDJ and all, Guy Ritchie’s missing a major opportunity here. After all, Ritchie’s the guy who made Jason Statham a star.  The Stath would be perfect for this role. The logical, cerebral Sherlock Holmes has been done to death.  How bout a modern update in which Holmes is a strong, silent type who isn’t afraid to remove his shirt or a bad guy’s teeth or your mom’s panties?  Let’s face it, no one likes a smartypants.

Roighto Watson, oy say we fock’n bugga dese cunts now, innit. ‘Old moy fock’n shir’.
