Here’s the full-length trailer for Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring, which tells the based-on-a-true-story of a group of high school kids who start robbing celebrities like Paris Hilton so they can be like Lindsay Lohan. Sofia Coppola does a lot of movies about bratty rich kids, which is good, because hey, write what you know (and I don’t mean that facetiously, when bratty rich kids try to write about poor people you get Beasts of the Southern Wild). The challenge here is going to be how to shoot a critique of shallow A-holes without it feeling like “hey, look, here’s some obnoxious kids being obnoxious!” Making it funnier would be a start. Here it sort of just looks like a Disney Channel version of Spring Breakers. And even that movie would be nothing without James Franco talking about his sh*t.
I hope Leslie Mann is in this a lot more than this trailer would have us believe. Emma Watson is super pretty, but… well, she’s going to need to learn to act more better at some point. She’s got sort of a middle school Parker Posey impression thing going on right now.
