Quentin Tarantino Wants To Turn ‘Django’ Into A Four-Part Miniseries

It’s always hard to say how much stock to put in anything Quentin Tarantino says, because who knows if it’s him talking, or if the Cocaine Wizard has been whispering in his ear. But in any case, the big story out of Cannes this week is that Tarantino is teasing a four-part TV miniseries version of Django Unchained. In related news, I hear Spike Lee just canceled his HBO.

“I have about 90 minutes worth of material with Django,” Tarantino said. “It hasn’t been seen. My idea, frankly, is to cut together a four-hour version of Django Unchained.

As long as we’re stretching 90 minutes of material into four hours, why not make it a Peter Jackson movie?

“But I wouldn’t show it like a four hour movie. I would cut it up into hour chapters. Like a four-part mini-series. And show it on cable television. Show it like an hour at a time, each chapter.”

“We’d use all the material I have and it wouldn’t be an endurance test. It would be a mini-series. And people love those,” Tarantino said. [USA Today]

The 51-year-old Tarantino, of course, has a long history of talking about projects that never pan out, but assuming this one does… yeah, I’d watch that. A lot of people thought Django was too long, but I would’ve watched another few hours of it. Hell, I’d watch a four-hour miniseries of just those Three Stooges-esque Klansman. So, basically, I’m all for this. If it happens I’ll be planning a premiere party at my apartment, complete with Mandingo fights between my cats.
