Samuel Jackson On Bill Cosby: ‘I Wish He Would Say Something’

You have to feel for black male celebrities these days, who seem to be expected to weigh in on the Bill Cosby controversy no matter how little it may have to do with them. Being able to speak just for yourself is sort of the ultimate white privilege. That said, Samuel L. Jackson once worked as Bill Cosby’s stand-in on The Cosby Show, so it does make some sense that they’d ask him.

[Appearing on Bravo’s Watch What Happens] Jackson declined to weigh in on whether or not Cosby is guilty, saying “I can’t make a judgment about it.”

But he added, “I wish that [Cosby] would say something.”

The comedian has remained silent since the flood of allegations began this past fall.

But Jackson agreed that powerful men do take advantage of women.

“I make my judgment because I have a daughter, I have a wife I love and I have a lot of women in my life,” he said. “And I know women are vulnerable in this society and people with power take advantage of them.” [THR]

What a fantastic answer. Another round of applause for the man with 151 unique spellings of “motherf*cker.” For anyone raised in the age of “I won’t even dignify this with a response,” that’s all well and good, but when you’ve been accused of rape by three football teams worth of people, you’re going to need one hell of a conspiracy theory.

Now then, I’d like to hear Samuel L. Jackson weigh in on Russell Simmons.
