Will Smith On Jared Leto’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Method Acting: ‘I’ve Never Actually Met Jared Leto’

Will Smith revealed many things during his Beats 1 radio interview with Zane Lowe on Monday, including a bit about Bad Boys 3 and his upcoming tour and new album. But the part of the interview that caught our attention was the section above (starting at 15:35, or 15:55 if you’re rushed), in which Will Smith talks about Jared Leto’s infamous method acting in Suicide Squad.

I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, and Will Smith will tell you how the Clown Prince of Crime went all method actor-y in here.

“[Suicide Squad] is insane. I’ve never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for six months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of ‘Action!’ and ‘Cut!’ […] I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be ‘Hey, Jared. What’s up?’ […] He was all in on the Joker.” (Via)

Host Zane Lowe, who knows Leto, joked, “Probably a good thing. He’s a dick.”

Lowe was joking and all, but it has to be awkward to be around method actors. You never go full method.

At this point, Leto’s method acting has been joked about many, many, many times here, but the day we can’t joke about Jared Leto’s method acting is the day I toss my router off a bridge and start listening to only Pat Boone albums while eating ribbon candy. (I’m not going to say “Werther’s Originals” because they’re delicious and old people need to stop bogarting them.)

Anyway, hearing about the strangeness on set again makes this old meme seem even more relevant.
