David Mamet apparently has a hard on for jiu jitsu and is currently shooting a movie "set in the world of mixed martial arts".  I did jiu jitsu myself for a while, but I got kicked out of my gym because I had a whole different idea of what a "rear naked choke" was.

'Redbelt' stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (whose name is really hard to spell and will henceforth be referred to as "Chuy"), Alice Braga, Tim Allen (Dick), Emily Mortimer, Rodrigo Santoro, Rebecca Pidgeon and Randy Couture.

[Chuy] plays Mike Terry, the chief instructor at the Southside Jiu-jitsu Academy. Although a talented fighter, he refuses to compete in professional bouts: "Competition weakens the fighter." Instead he trains dedicated students in the art of self-defense: bodyguards, cops, soldiers. At his brother-in-law's club one evening, Mike saves a famous action star (Allen) from a severe beating. His defense of Frank leads to a job in the film industry, but other events conspire to force Mike to participate in a prize fight. An American samurai film set in the world of mixed martial arts, David Mamet's Redbelt, is a story about the limits of a single man's integrity.

A martial arts master who's reluctant to fight but forced into the ring by circumstance?  Why the hell hasn't someone thought of this before?!

But unoriginal premises aside, it'll be interesting to see what Tim Allen (Dick) can do in one of his rare, non-Santa roles.  If 'Galaxy Quest' taught us anything, it's that the one thing Tim Allen's good at is playing a washed up movie star.  Well, that and selling cocaine.  So I guess he's good at two things.  Sorry for the confusion.
