Roleplaying Gets You Arrested In Abu Dhabi?

Admittedly, they were not your typical LARPers (Live action role player): they were three men in military fatigues, masks, and bulletproof vests. But they also had plastic guns and clubs, and were in a private house, on the roof, videotaping themselves LARPing.

So they were probably a bit surprised when a SWAT team burst in to arrest them for playing make-believe.

So, did the United Arab Emirates, realizing that the situation was ridiculous, let the men go with a warning to not be so dumb when playing games near a government building? No!

Instead they want to ban violent video games for creating a “culture of violence” among children, and generally causing social problems, since obviously it was video games at fault here, even though there were no video games involved, or any violence until the LARPers got arrested.

No offense to the UAE government, but we’re pretty sure the culture of violence is because you send special forces to beat up guys running around with plastic guns, not because somebody played “Bayonetta”.
