Another Day, Another Gaming Service Hacked

You know, you’d think game companies, of all people, would be aware that their fan base tends to have a large contingent of teenage nerds, who also tend to be interested in computers and also tend to be interested in the online equivalent of mailbox baseball.

But apparently not, as Square Enix just announced it had to take down its entire Members Service after 1.8 million accounts were breached. Square Enix has no idea what the scale of the damage is yet, but it only targeted Japanese and American gamers: the 300,000 or so in Europe apparently weren’t worth the effort.

No credit cards went down the tubes on this one, just names, postal addresses, emails and phone numbers. Still, buy a copy of Norton or something, guys! Sheesh!
