‘Batman: The Animated Series’ And View-Master Team Up To Offer A Virtual Reality Tour Of Gotham

Any self-respecting nerd who grew up during the ’90s has watched every episode of Batman: The Animated Series, and probably played most of the video games, but now you can take it a step further. Mattel has just announced a special Batman: The Animated Series edition of its View-Master VR, which will let kids immerse themselves in one of the best cartoons of all time. And hey, once the kids put it down, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind if you tried it out, too.

For those who don’t keep up on toy trends, the View-Master of yesteryear has been updated into a full-on virtual reality device similar to Google Cardboard. Content is viewed on a smartphone you place in the View-Master, and the virtual reality “experiences” are unlocked by scanning a disc that looks like one of the film-reels you used to pop into the original View-Master. It’s a cool, nostalgic update on a classic.

According to its Amazon description, the Batman: TAS View-Master will let you explore the Batcave, fly the Batwing and take down the Joker, Two-Face, and The Riddler. It even features the iconic voices of Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Tara Strong as Batman, The Joker, and Batgirl, respectively. Here are some screenshots…

Obviously this won’t be the most advanced VR experience ever, but on the flip side, it will only cost $45. The Batman: The Animated Series View-Master hit shelves Nov. 15.
