The Beta For ‘Hitman’ Will Give Fans A Sneak Peak At Agent 47’s Origin Story

Later this month, gamers who pre-ordered the upcoming episodic Hitman series will get to take part in an exclusive beta. This beta is a bit different than most, though – it’s not designed to test Hitman‘s multiplayer mode (the game doesn’t have one). Instead, it basically just lets you play the game’s first mission earlier than everyone else.

Set 20 years before the rest of the game, Hitman‘s first mission takes place at some sort of shadowy complex, and details how Agent 47 first joined the International Contract Agency, the secret assassin’s league he’s worked for throughout the series. It’s a fairly juicy bit of the Agent 47 story, but don’t worry, if you don’t pre-order, you can still play the mission along with everybody else when Hitman‘s first episode arrives.

I’m sure this beta will generate its fair share of controversy. It’s really more of a pre-order incentive than a real beta – aside from leaderboards and basic mechanics, I’m not even sure what this beta could even be testing. What are your thoughts? Think the whole situation is weird, or are you fine with getting a little sneak preview in the guise of a beta?

The Hitman beta arrives February 12. The first full chapter of the series hits March 11.
