The ‘Mirror’s Edge’ Games Are Being Adapted Into A Death-Defying TV Series

Video-game movies don’t tend to work out that well, but EA’s Mirror’s Edge series is apparently hoping a jump to TV might be more fruitful. According to Deadline, Endemol Shine Studios grabbed the rights to develop Mirror’s Edge for the small screen. No word on where the show might air, but Endemol Shine has produced shows for a wide variety of channels — including NBC, AMC and Showtime.

For you non-gamers out there, Mirror’s Edge takes place in a dystopian world where the only way anti-government forces can communicate is through “runners,” who leap and scramble over rooftops to deliver packages by hand. Players explore the game as Faith, a top runner drawn deeper into the machinations of the Mirror’s Edge world when her sister is framed for murder. The game is certainly well-suited for a TV adaptation, as their stories unfold in a somewhat episodic manner, and their parkour action wouldn’t be overly expensive to make. Faith would also be a refreshing change of pace from your typical TV hero.

Endemol Shine president Sharon Hall had this to say about Mirror’s Edge

“We see Mirror’s Edge as a franchise for the global TV audience. It has a strong female protagonist, a wildly rabid fan base and a worldwide brand that Electronic Arts and EA DICE have done an amazing job establishing.”

What do you think? Can Mirror’s Edge successfully make the leap to TV? The next game in the series, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, arrives soon on June 7.
