Nintendo Officially Announced ‘Pokémon Sun & Moon’ With A Nostalgic Video You Need To Watch

Yesterday, Pokémon trainers got a bit of a sneak-peak at what was to come, when the trademarks and logos for two new games called Pokémon Sun and Moon were leaked. Of course, nothing is ever a sure thing with Nintendo, so the gamers were waiting with bated breath for this morning’s Pokémon-focused Nintendo Direct.

Thankfully, Nintendo didn’t string fans along – they officially announced Pokémon Sun and Moon as the next major entries in the series, and dropped a holiday 2016 release date. We didn’t get a look at the new games themselves, but the announcement came at the end of an excellent, nostalgic ode to the series’ 20th anniversary. You can watch the video at the top of this post (jump to 1:45 for the good stuff).

Tomorrow also marks the first time the original Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow will be officially re-released. Even better, you’ll be able to transfer your Pokémon from the original games to Nintendo’s Pokémon Bank online storage system, and use them all in the upcoming Pokémon Sun and Moon.

So yeah, even though Nintendo didn’t announce Danny DeVito will be voicing Detective Pikachu, this is still a pretty exciting day for Pokémon fans. Get ready for a busy year of catchin’ ’em all.
