Capcom Is Putting A Whole Lot Of ‘Resident Evil’ Ports On Modern Consoles

Japanese publishers are struggling. Some are going entirely mobile. Some are turning into a creepy security state. Capcom’s response has been to port everything it can get its hands on to any platform that will have it, so perhaps it’s no surprise that Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 are all coming to Xbox One and PS4.

Oddly, the ports are arriving in reverse order. Resident Evil 6 will be coming in March, Resident Evil 5 in the summer, and Resident Evil 4 in the fall. We also won’t be surprised if Resident Evil 3 gets thrown into the mix, if for no other reason than it will be the only numbered RE game that doesn’t have a current-gen port.

This also raises the question of whether or not Resident Evil 7 is out this year. It would be a bit odd to put out all these ports without leading up to something, although Capcom does have a multiplayer shooter called Umbrella Corps that looks like a mashup of Left 4 Dead and Counter-Strike arriving in May, although that’s a budget title. And we suppose Capcom needs no excuse to port games, as we’ve seen.

The big question will be just how much work goes into these ports, and what features made the leap and which didn’t, especially with Resident Evil 6. We’ll find out in March.
