‘Resident Evil 7’ Introduces Its Terrifying Villains And Adds More Meat To Its Demo

Capcom has done a pretty good job of keeping Resident Evil 7: Biohazard mysterious. Exactly what kind of game will it be? Who are the protagonists? What kind of monsters will you go up against? The release of the Resident Evil 7: Beginning Hour demo only raised more questions.

Well, at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Capcom finally pulled back the curtain somewhat, introducing the world to the game’s revolting villains, and providing a general outline of how the game will play. The trailer at the top of this post introduces the Baker Family, a Texas Chainsaw-like clan of crazies with some very off-putting eating habits. The Bakers are Jack and Marguerite, their son Lucas and grandma Camille, and they all seem to be physically enhanced in some way, as they’re able to bust through walls and absorb deadly amounts of punishment. According to Capcom, the Bakers are the only enemies in the game (contrary to previous reports, there are no zombies), but you do get weapons and can kill them if you’re resourceful enough. In addition to scrambling around hiding from the Bakers, the game will also feature flashbacks to different places and times.

In addition to the new trailer and details, Capcom is updating the Resident Evil 7 demo to include new areas and puzzles. Maybe we’ll finally figure out what that disembodied finger was for.

One other slightly unfortunate update – the price of the Resident Evil 7 deluxe version, which includes the main game and access to two DLC story expansions, has gone up from $80 to $90. Thankfully, if you’ve already pre-ordered the deluxe version, you’re covered. Folks who pre-order also get a handful of bonus items, but aside from that, Capcom is promising the game has no microtransactions.
