Mads Mikkelsen Is Confused By ‘Death Stranding’, Too

Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange, Rogue One) is playing the villain in Hideo Kojima’s mysterious Death Stranding, his first game after he, Guillermo del Toro, and Norman Reedus left Konami on not the greatest of terms. Not much is known about the game, and the two trailers with a naked Norman Reedus and Guillermo del Toro fleeing from Mads Mikkelson left us with only a few hints.

It turns out, Mikkelsen himself doesn’t know how to explain the game, either. He told Birth Movies Death, “It’s very intricate. I mean, you know [Kojima]. He’s a very brilliant man. I mean… the stuff he told me? I only understood some of it. […] He’s creating something completely new.”

Mikkelsen didn’t sign to the project until he saw the first trailer, saying he loved “the emotion, the feeling of it, the sensuality in what he does.” He was also encouraged to take the job by his son, who is a fan of Kojima.

One thing we can be sure of is that Death Stranding will not be a zombie game, since Mikkelsen seems disappointed he hasn’t done a zombie project yet:

What genre have you not worked in that you’d really like–

[Interrupting, somewhat excitedly] “Zombies!”

[…] What’s your favorite zombie thing?

“I do love watching Walking Dead. I do. There’s something so fascinating, where [Mads is getting very excited] when the zombies are moving sufficiently slowly, you actually want to live in that world, you know?”

Really? Why?

“Because you can just f*cking chop the sh*t out of them! [Hard laugh] But you should always be aware! Don’t get too close up! Because that’s when [Mads mimes biting someone’s neck as a zombie] that’s when they come.”

If he ever does make a zombie movie or game, we suggest “You can just f*cking chop the sh*t out of them!” as the tagline.
