Gabriele Muccino (Pursuit of Happyness, Seven Pounds) has been tapped to direct Passengers, “a love story set on a spaceship” starring Keanu Reeves. They’re calling it a love story, anyway:
“Passengers” is set in the future on a spacecraft making a centuries-long interstellar voyage to a new planet. Due to a computer glitch, a single passenger (Reeves) awakens from cryogenic sleep 90 years before anyone else. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he, in turn, awakens a beautiful woman. Muccino described the love interest of the character played by Reeves as being a “lesser-known” talent. That’s a love story? I’m sure she really appreciates getting to die in space with Ted “Theodore” Logan. Waking up the prettiest girl you can find and saying, “You’re going to grow old and die with me now” is so romantic and not rape-y at all. Frankly, I can’t even see why Keanu Reeves would have to thaw out anyone if he’s going to be alone for 90 years. He is immortal after all:
Is Mounet gonna hafta unthaw a b**ch?
