Deadline is reporting that Will Smith has signed onto a third Men In Black film, which will be called Men In Black 3D. Now, while I fondly remember the first Men In Black film (which is to say I haven’t seen it in around 10 years), I had to look up the plot of Men In Black 2 despite having seen it several times. So, I wouldn’t consider it particularly memorable…or particularly good.
Now the third film will add the sci-fi cliché of time travel to franchise, with Smith going back in time to 1969 to meet the younger version of Tommy Lee Jones’ character K, who’ll be played by Josh Brolin. Director Barry Sonnenfeld will be back for it, along with Tommy Lee Jones. The script was written by Etan Cohen (not at all to be confused with Ethan Cohen), who’s written on a very mixed bag of projects like King of the Hill, Idiocracy, Topic Thunder, American Dad and Madagascar 2, so who knows if it’ll be any good.
It’s set to hit theaters May 25, 2012…whether we want it or not.
