This Diet Sounds Delicious, Familiar

By / 11.10.10

Nutritionist Mark Haub of Kansas State University theorized that the number of calories consumed in a person’s diet is more important than the nutritional content of the food.  This is a brilliant excuse to eat a bunch of junk food (AKA The Blogger’s Diet), which he did for two months.  He ate 800 fewer calories (about 30% less) than usual and lost 27 pounds, dropped his BMI from 28.8 to 24.9, and dropped his body fat percentage from 33.4 to 24.9.  If you think all that junk food must have hardened his arteries, get ready to bend over, Abigail May, ’cause here comes the gravy pipe!  His LDL (bad cholesterol) dropped 20%, his HDL (good cholesterol) increased 20%, and his triglycerides (they’re bad, mmmkay) dropped 39%.

But don’t start celebrating a diet of only Cookie Puss just yet because CNN always comes along and pees in the sugar smacks:

Two-thirds of his total intake came from junk food. He also took a multivitamin pill and drank a protein shake daily. And he ate vegetables, typically a can of green beans or three to four celery stalks. [CNN via Geekologie]

I don’t know if I should emulate this.  Make that protein shake a Shamrock Shake from McDonald’s and throw a few McRibs in the mix, and now we’ve got a diet plan tailored to my exacting needs as a blogger.  Also, f–k celery. For real.
