Which Actresses Will Be Unnecessary In The Next Batman Film?

Is there anything more unimportant or interchangeable in Batman films than Bruce Wayne’s/Batman’s love interest? Maybe the Joker’s nameless goons, but at least they give you a good fight scene once in a while. After all, it’s not we’re ever going to see Batman really fall in love and stop being Batman.

And yet, actresses still want the parts, perhaps hoping to follow in the somewhat-relevant footsteps of Michelle Pfeiffer and Maggie Gyllenhal.  The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog has what they say is an exclusive list of actress being shortlisted for parts in Christopher Nolan’s next bat-film, The Dark Knight Rises:

Sources tell Heat Vision that Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Biel are due to test for roles in the Warner Bros. superhero tentpole in the next two weeks. Also testing are relative newcomers Kate Mara and Charlotte Riley. Hot British actress Gemma Arterton has also scheduled to test but, as Heat Vision first reported last week, Arterton just landed the female lead in Paramount’s Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and might now have scheduling issues.

Heat Vision is also quoting sources that say that there are two parts that the actresses are vying for: a villain and yet another love interest, with the villain rumored to be Talia, daughter of Batman Begins villain Ras Al Ghul. As for the love interest…ah, who the hell cares?
