The Walking Dead Video Game? The Walking Dead Video Game.

Look, I’ll be the first to admit that zombies have become just about as commercial as Justin Bieber’s old 40-year-old soccer mom haircut. And when it comes to zombies in video games, over the years we’ve certainly seen a lot of bad titles collect dust on the retail store shelves. Though thanks in part to games like Red Dead Redemption’s Undead Nightmare DLC and the upcoming hype surrounding Dead Island, hope still remains that developers will give it their all with the interactive zombie concept -fingers crossed, especially considering this latest announcement: a game based on Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead.

The project is being developed by Telltale Games, though very few details are known at this point -the developer’s own website simply lists a fall 2011 expectancy along with a mailing list fans can sign up for.

Kirkman, remaining extremely tightlipped about the video game project, mentioned:

“The game is at an early stage and we’re in the process of mapping it out now,” he told IGN. “[It’s] definitely within the comic book world, just like the novel series, [and] it’s definitely episodic.” [source]

So does an episodic video game based on The Walking Dead sound like it could be amazing? Of course it does. I’m just wary, because I thought the exact same thing with that other episodic video games based on a graphic novel Watchmen: The End Is Nigh -and that experience left a terrible aftertaste in gamer’s mouths everywhere (a horrible taste when mixed with Funyuns).

So what’s next for this project? Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…or we could start looking for clues. I’ll check under the rug in the living room, somebody go look in the pantry and the basement.
