Guitar Hero Rising From The Grave?

Apparently our eulogy for Guitar Hero was a little premature, as it’s not quite yet an ex-franchise, just a sleeping one. Which is odd for Activision to claim, in light of the fact that it kind of disbanded everything to do with Guitar Hero and killed the next game in the series, but who knows why the House of Kotick does anything?

Actually, we do have an explanation: they’re just not putting out a game for 2011, but they’re keeping the franchise around. Considering Guitar Hero III: Neversoft’s Revenge is their highest grossing game of all time, beating even “Call of Duty”, it’s not a hard choice for a business to make.

On the other hand, they’ll have to figure out how to innovate in a space pretty much owned by Harmonix and starting to enter the area of actually teaching people instruments. Considering where the franchise went after part 2? We’re not sure that’ll be easy.
