While most other industrial grade robotic arms were busy giving handjobs at this year’s ICRA, in Shanghai, the team from Yaskawa Motoman Robotics thought to shake things up a bit more. So what’d they do? They got their robot arms real nice and drunk and then gave each of their demonstration bots a lightsaber and then programmed a Waltz of the Blades, if you will. With one Motoman arm sporting a traditional single blade saber, his opponent wields that Darth Maul stripper pole thing.
Clearly the next step here is to outfit each Motoman with its own swords and barbaric gauntlet. I’d pay to see that. I’m sure we could get these things over to Walter’s garage and stage a few betting rounds before his wife, Barbara, gets home.
