Look, I’m all for today’s youth striving for excellence and success, it’s just once these kids start making more money than me and all my friends combined that I start getting jealous as all hell. Take for instance UK teen Laurence Rook, the young man who invented the Smart Bell, an invention that’s set him on pace to make around a quarter million pounds, this year.
See, Laurence knew that his mother was fed up with coming home and finding those post office “WE TRIED TO DELIVER YOUR PACKAGE, BUT YOU WERE NOT HOME” sticky notes all over her door. So, in an attempt to make life a little easier for mum, Laurence created a doorbell that, when pushed, would call her cellphone directly.
And then the lightening struck…
When I started to develop the Smart Bell, I realised it could also be a great burglar-deterrent. Most opportunist burglars ring the doorbell first to see if anyone is at home, but Smart Bell has the perfect way to counteract this.
If you are out and a burglar comes up to your door and rings the doorbell, after ten seconds Smart Bell will ring through to your mobile phone and you will be able to answer. [Metro]
Not to play devil’s advocate here, but what kind of a burglar is ringing the doorbell before he plans to rob all your sh-t? Hmmm, I’m now intrigued by the very polite habits of the Surrey criminal underworld.
And, just to assure everyone that we’re in good company with old Laurence, when asked what his first thoughts were upon hearing the news of how much cheddar he’d be making, Rook said:
When I found out I was going to make a quarter of a million pounds, I thought, “Wow, that’s a lot of computer games”.
Yes. Priorities. Laurence Rook has them, do you?
