Fox And Hugh Jackman Choose A New Director For “The Wolverine”

Darren Aronofsky left the director’s chair for X-Men spinoff The Wolverine back in March.  Fox still wants to start shooting by this fall, so they’ve offered the helm to James Mangold, who has already directed Hugh Jackman in Kate & Leopold.  He also directed 3:10 to Yuma, Girl Interrupted, Walk the Line, and Knight & Day.  Although Mangold hasn’t signed yet, Deadline reports both Fox and Hugh Jackman want him for the job.

They still plan to use the original script written by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects).  His script places Wolverine in “a love story featuring a Japanese actress“, which may be an adaptation of the Mariko Yashida plotline.  Unfortunately, it looks like Fox has declined our suggestion to rename the movie Wolverine 1: This Is The First One, There Weren’t Any Others Seriously (And Hugh Jackman Is Shirtless For 90 Minutes).
