Six Panels Of Penny Arcade Get Movie Deal

To all you fans of the webcomic Penny Arcade who’d just love a movie based on it, we’ve got good news and bad news.

The good news is that Paramount is putting out a movie based on a Penny Arcade strip. The bad news is that it’s not one of the strips featuring main characters Tycho and Gabe, but rather The New Kid, a one-off strip introducing a kid who’s forced to switch schools on different planets as his father is relocated in his interplanetary job.

We’d like to go into more detail, but that’s it. It’s only one page… just a springboard to an idea, really. You can see the whole strip here.

Paramount’s hired Book of Eli writer Gary Whitta to flesh out the story…or really to make a story out of the very basic introduction. We’ve got to congratulate creators Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik for selling the idea…but we’re a little bummed that we’re not going to get a real Penny Arcade movie. (But then, maybe we’re just bitter that we never even got a complete Penny Arcade video game.)
