Goyer To Write Godzilla, Try To Make It “Gritty”?

As we’ve noted before, I’m not the biggest fan of David Goyer. That’s because he’s a lousy screenwriter. That said, he’s got the one job which it’s pretty much impossible to screw up: writing a Godzilla script.

I’ve got to be honest, I may not like Goyer and I may love Godzilla, but this does not throw me into paraoxysms of nerd rage, because there’s just no way to ruin Godzilla that Toho hasn’t already tried. Seriously. Sit through some of the later Showa films, or even a couple of the lesser Heisei movies, and tell me Goyer can somehow do worse. This might be the one franchise we really have found the bottom of.

That said, considering Goyer is paired with Gareth Edwards, the director of “Monsters”, which managed to make a movie about giant monsters rampaging through Mexico to be preachy and to have lots of dull spots, I am pretty sure it’s going to be “gritty” and “serious” and have some sort of thuddingly obvious political point. So, basically, it’s “Godzilla Vs. Hedorah” all over again.
