The DC Fifty-Too: What If Indie Artists Controlled DC’s Comics?

We can expect a lot of shake ups when DC launches (or relaunches) 52 comic book titles next Wednesday, August 31st to try and turn the tide against flagging single issues sales numbers. One thing that won’t be changing though is the DC artistic style which looks pretty much like what we’ve come to expect.

It seems more than a little strange that while trying to breathe fresh breath into their characters they will change Superman’s costume into a t-shirt and jeans but they won’t relax the artistic style. Fortunately for those of us that wonder what DC characters might look like if they given less strict artistic guidelines a group of artists have banded together to make DC FIFTY-TOO. From project founder Jon Morris:

I contacted a plethora of very talented – and very different – cartoonists with a simple challenge: If DC approached you and offered you any DC property – past or present – of your choice to be your own new ongoing part of the DC Universe, what would the cover to the first issue look like?

DC FIFTY-TOO is releasing four new covers each day. Keep clicking to check out our favorites of the covers they’ve released so far.
