We here at GammaSquad have been all over the story of Nicholas Cage losing, then retrieving, then selling for a record amount his treasured copy of Action Comics #1. It was an entertaining story, or at least entertaining enough to sustain a couple 250-word blog posts. Could it sustain a 90-minute plus movie? Hollywood certainly hopes so!
Lionsgate is hoping to make a wacky heist comedy called Action No. 1 out of the story. The good news? It’s being written Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, the creators of the generally pretty amusing Reno 911! The bad news? Apparently Nic Cage isn’t attached to star. That pretty much immediately sinks this thing, because nobody aside from Nic Cage is going to be able to do Nic Cage justice.
Well, maybe Meryl Streep with the right wig. Hmmm.
