YouTube Invents New Way For Teenagers and Rednecks to Injure Themselves — Acetylene Barrel Rockets!

That dropping Mentos in Diet Coke thing that went around a while ago was pretty neat, but now the Internet has one-upped that with a vengeance — see, if you mix carbide and water you get acetylene. Acetylene is highly explosive and can be used to do things like, oh, I dunno, launch 50-gallon metal drums into the air like rocket ships.

You can check out a video of a bunch of dudes setting off barrels after the jump, but remember, don’t try this at home. This is for sleeveless shirt wearing professionals only…

I can’t wait for the inevitable America’s Funniest Home Videos exploding barrels montage. I suggest a slide-whistle sound effect for when the metal drums take off, and the sound of a cash-register opening when one crushes some guy’s skull as it falls back to earth.

Sample Tom Bergeron joke — “I wonder what they used to keep in those drums? Bet it wasn’t their common sense!
