Alan Moore tends to be pretty grumpy about his stuff being made into movies, because well, he tends to be grumpy about most things, but also because most of the movies based on his work have ranged from bad to really goddamn f–king bad. Well, except Constantine — any movie with Tilda Swinton, Peter Stormare and Keanu Reeves in it has to be good.
Anyways, it seems as though Moore has decided to show these cursed filmmaking types how it’s done, by writing a series of short films called Show Pieces. The first of these shorts has already been filmed and will be followed by several others. Not much is known about any of the shorts other than they’ll be “occult” and “noir-flecked”, so in other words, throw in some weird sex stuff and they’re just like Alan Moore’s comics!
Moore’s first two shorts, Act of Faith and Jimmy’s End will be available to view online sometime this fall, at which point we’ll finally have an answer to the question — is Alan Moore’s writing just unfilmable, or were movies like From Hell and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen made by stupid people?
