Here’s ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ As Directed By Todd Phillips And Wes Anderson

Disney is seeking a director to replace George Lucas for Star Wars: Episode VII, and Conan O’Brien recently aired the totally-real audition tapes for three directors. Now two more directors are being parodied on Conan. The first video imagines the Star Wars series if it were directed by Todd Phillips, the director of The Hangover, The Hangover 2, The Hangover 3: Oops, I Did It Again, and The Hangover 4: IN SPACE. The kid in me enjoyed R2-D2 projectile vomiting and the magnificently sophomoric sight gag involving Chewbacca which I won’t spoil for you. The adult in me is a raging alcoholic who bristles at the word hangover.

The second video parodies an easy target for parody, Wes Anderson (Rushmore, The Life Aquatic, The Royal Tenenbaums). His version of Star War, A Life Galactic, features the familiar Helvetica font, symmetrical set design, and an anti-climactic argument between Han Solo and Greedo. While it does showcase many of these Wes Anderson stylistic standbys, it could be even more twee. Han Solo’s shirt needs corduroy elbow patches, and there isn’t nearly enough yellow or a sufficient number of overhead shots. And where is the Bill Murray cameo? Get it together, Conan.
