Not surprisingly, this week’s list is a bit short:
- DC starts the Throne of Atlantis crossover in Aquaman and Justice League and wraps up Nite Owl.
- Marvel drops Amazing Spider-Man #700, the finale of the series and one that promises to be controversial to say the least.
- Image launches Mara, from Brian Wood and Ming Doyle, and Hip Flask: Ouroboros.
- Boom! launches Deathmatch, basically Paul Jenkins settling every “Who would kill who?” superhero matchup.

Or, “Geoff Johns Hijacks The Justice League To Help Rehabilitate Aquaman”.
Not that this is a bad thing. Johns has probably done more to fight the whole idea of Aquaman as a joke than anybody at DC. And this arc, about Atlantis invading, is all about ol’ Orangeshirt. It does a lot to establish Atlantis as a threat and Arthur not as Dr. Doolittle with superstrength but a king who has walked away from his rightful throne. It’s some good stuff, and you’ll need to pick up both issues: Aquaman picks up right where Justice League leaves off.
Along the way, we see how a Superman/Wonder Woman romance might actually work. They actually go on a dinner date in disguise, and Johns sells it wonderfully. Green Lantern might be his most compelling book, but he’s still turning out great comics.
Before Watchmen: Nite Owl #4
The art from Bill Sienkiewicz and Andy Kubert is pretty much worth the purchase price, which is fortunate because the finale to this mini is… pedestrian, to say the least. But man… that art.
